April was a beautiful month. There were so many awesome sunrises, but this day was my favorite.
All these photos were taken with my iPhone. The square ones are instagrams. The others are all SOOC (straight out of camera) – I re-sized them for the blog but didn’t adjust the saturation or contrast or anything.
April 14th I got up at 5:30 am and went for a run. I had planned it to end up at Gas Works Park about the time the sun was clearing the east side.
I cut down to run by Lake Union and the reflection of color in the lake was beautiful.
As I was running along the sidewalk in Fremont I saw this – Mt Rainier perfectly framed under the Aurora bridge. I kept running. Then I stopped, went back, and took a photo.
‘look ma, the mountain really does exist!’
Never having been to the park for sunrise I wasn’t sure how crowded it would be. There were several people wandering aimlessly. Some of them had come over from the swap meet across the street. At the top of the hill there was a group of college kids ending their night. But nothing else mattered when the sun crossed the horizon. No one talked. All of us turned to watch with awe and appreciation.

Then I walked around to the other side of the old coal plant to see it all lit by the rising sun.
Down by the lake’s edge I noticed the Olympic Mountains. They were a brilliant color of hot pink. This shot doesn’t do it justice.
Downtown Seattle. One of my favorite views of the city is from Gas Works Park. With the still calm in the lake and the reflection off the buildings it was perfect.
then I ran back home – stopping again to admire the mountain.
I’m looking forward to a new destination for sunrise in May. Any suggestions?

This was really pretty, I really like seeing it all together here with your comments. I appreciate it more than just seeing a couple shots on Face Book.
But actually it’s prettier at sunset.
Suggestion for May, Christianna Lake
Thanks Mom. I held back several photos from fb for the blog post. thanks.
May – yes – I did think of your house for sunrise… and yes, it would be better at sunset. :
