#92 – enter a photography contest
Last month I submitted photos to Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve for their 2012 Photography Contest. I won best of professional division for the above photo.
Fernwood holds a special place in my heart. It’s the place I took the boys regularly to run off steam, to explore, to count frogs and birds. I’ve taken countless family portraits there for lots of clients.
Last year we went daily in the spring waiting for this magnolia tree to open. And when it finally did… things felt complete again. I can literally sit under this tree looking up at the sky for hours. That’s where the inspiration for this photo came. I knew with us moving I would not be around to see it blossom this spring. I wanted a photo to permanently remind me of it’s beauty. Of the amazingness that is God’s creation. And when I look at this photo I can feel the warm sun on my face and smell the blossoms of the magnolia. It is without a doubt one of my favorite things in this world. One of my top three favorite places in Michigan.
Thank you – to everyone at Fernwood.
(photo available for purchase. I have to say it looks amazing printed on metallic paper)
