Self-Portrait – October

October seems like so long ago. In reality today’s only the 25th – so it’s not even over yet – but it’s been a long month.

October started this way – Saturday the 1st -shooting a wedding back in Michigan. Sunday the 2nd – an am family session (3 hour round trip drive) and then a session with my 2 year old niece and then to the winery for some live music from a new favorite (Mike Struwin) and then hanging out with friends at my parents and packing. Monday the 3rd – get up at 5 am and start the journey back to Seattle.

My mom flew back to Seattle with me and I have to say – having her here was fantastic. (Never mind the fact that my dad had been here the week before I flew back to MI and I was already feeling spoiled with family time.)

In true ‘me’ fashion I tried to cram as much as possible into the few days we had, lamenting that we didn’t do enough. I’m not sure at what point I would’ve felt like we had done enough – but I was sure we weren’t there yet.

Our big trip while mom was here was a drive to the coast and up around the Olympic Peninsula. We stopped at Ruby Beach and the Hoh Rain Forest. (Those will have separate blog posts because they were each so amazing.) While we were at the rain forest I decided I had better take a photo of myself. Regardless of having been up since 6 am with very little makeup on, my hair had been in a ponytail all day, we had hiked around the beach for a few hours and were almost an hour into this hike, and I’m wearing what I’m most certain is a “loungewear” top from Gap’s Body line. (It’s so comfortable. I feel the need to buy a few more.) I didn’t let any of that phase me. I did think about it later – but ya know, this is me. I don’t often wear makeup and when I do it’s minimal. I’m comfortable grubbing around with the kids. I encourage them to get dirty exploring and I like to do the same.

So… until next month … here’s me, in the Olympic National Park, Hoh Rain Forest, on the Trail of Mosses, stopped in the Maple Grove.
