Self-Portrait – May

Spring was late.

All that worrying I did in April, all the lamenting over the rainy, cold, cold, spring was for naught.

Because spring showed up and the magnolia tree exploded. And I spent a very happy afternoon standing under the magnolia looking up at the branches and flowers and just breathing. This tree “is” spring for me.

For several years my spring has revolved around this tree and when it blooms. Things get penciled in very delicately, knowing they will get moved and shuffled when the tree blooms: maternity photo shoots, family sessions, self-portraits, and just personal time spent sitting on the bench under it’s delicate blossoms. I’ve got clients who wait as eagerly as I do for the tree to bloom.

One of my most favorite memories was a trip to Fernwood with my mom and my kids back in ’08. This photo was taken by my mom. It still hangs framed in my living room to this day.

Until next time my beautiful magnolia…

Loved reading this, thanks for adding the photo of you and the boys. Sure makes me feel that I certainly missed out on a good thing not getting to Fernwood and seeing the magnolia in bloom. It is a beautiful tree with a beautiful calming effect, and you capture its spirit well.
